Shell Qatar honour for QU department DOHA: Qatar University’s Department of Social Sciences was isp endowed a Professorial Chair in Sustainable Development by Shell Qatar. The three-year endowment is centered in the Department’s backup Sociology Programme.
Following a candidate search, QU named Prof Paul Sillitoe of Durham University UK as Chair. Prof Sillitoe is a Professor of Anthropology and has a background in natural sciences and specialises in development and social change, subsistence and technology, land issues, human ecology and ethno-science.
“Shell particularly wanted this endowment in the Department of Social Sciences as it would initiate research and input on social issues around sustainable development in Qatar,” said Prof Sillitoe filre recovery.
“Sustainable development is now a core course which started this year. Therefore it would involve students and faculty from across the spectrum of the university,” he added.
